As the name suggests the Nike Wildhorse is not just your normal trainer. This product, which is essentially designed to master the art of running up and down hill has left me with many pluses and negatives with regards to it's design and selling points.

This shoe was excellent for both accent and decent of any hill I took up during my training on the road and the trail; the specialist rigid design means that your aren't going to be troubled by stones on the trail and that you ankles are provided with enough support on the uneven ground.

Starting from the bottom of the shoe, the lugs under the toe are angled from front to back to ensure maximum grip on the way up, while they are tapered from back to front in the heel to take you downhill . In simple terms the rubber sole is slightly ridged to ensure it can grip well on which ever surface you are climbing up and down.

I found that I remained controlled even on the rapid descents and although the extra grip may have slowed me down slightly I felt a lot more secure.

With regards to the support; the shoe still has substantial heel support however due to it's stiff design there is less cushioning with this shoe. Nike claims that there is added durability with these shoes because of the netted outer layer and I would have to agree, I found these shoes to combat every type of weather thrown at them.

Whilst I tested these shoes out both on the trail and on road, I can safely say they are more suited to the slightly more forgiving surface of a trail run or a muddy route.

When using these shoes to run on the road, it sort of felt like I was running in an astro turf style trainer. This I think is mainly caused by the inflexible sole.

With regards to what conditions these shoes would be best suited to for the coming months; this is a fantastic pairs of light weight shoes for any long off road muddy run you may wish to embark on.

As for there appearance I am undecided; whilst the luminosity of the bright orange laces and the lime green sole is quite prominent. This product is saved by the cool navy blue mesh upper layer that makes this shoe look a lot more professional.
