2015 Spikes (Sprint) from Nike

Manufacturer's Description

A Unisex Track Spike that’s precision engineered for 100–400m events, the second iteration of the Nike Zoom JA Fly is a serious contender that features an aggressively-rigid, eight-pin sole plate and a feather-light mesh and synthetic upper. Trust us, with a pair of these on your feet you’ll bolt out the blocks and fly to the finish in double quick time!

The cleat’s upper integrates Flywire Technology with a super-light, Single-Layer Mesh for outstanding ventilation, strength and support. While the aggressively designed Pebax Sole Plate, which comes replete with risers as well as 3/8" Pyramid Spikes, ensures maximum grip and forward propulsion to send you flying down the track.

No-sew Overlays and a mono-wrap Burrito Tongue also provide a fantastic, locked-in fit while the spike’s Phylon Midsole wedge delivers resilient underfoot cushioning and a touch of impact protection. Asymmetric Eyestays and Lacing also allow the shoe to better conform with the shape of your feet for a more natural fit and feel, and there’s a Softened Heel Counter for added comfort and reduced irritation in key high-wear areas.

Nike: Just Do It.

Key Features:

Phylon Wedge is a midsole foam piece in the heel for lightweight, resilient cushioning.
Pebax Spike Plate is a full-length, stiff polymer plate designed for maximum power transfer and forward propulsion.
Contains 8 spike receptacles and risers per shoe.
Lightweight Synthetic Leather upper provides protection, comfort, and a supportive fit.
Flywire over the midfoot is made of high tensile strength fibers layered between TPU and foam for a strong, lightweight, and dynamic fit.
Mono-Wrap Tongue has the tongue stitched to one side of the upper for an improved fit.
Asymmetrical lacing wraps the foot to the shoe and relieves pressure over the top ridge of the foot.
Slip Last involves wrapping and stitching the upper in a bootie-like shape before attaching the upper to the midsole which helps promote flexibility and decreases weight.

I've been testing the JA Fly 2 whilst warm weather training having previously used it's predecessor the Powercat. The Ja Fly 2 is a vast improvement over it's older brother, with a much lighter overall shoe whilst it hasn't lost any of it's stability and support.

The first thing I noticed about the spike is it's fit. I have abnormally wide feet, which means I find many spikes a tight fit however these appeared to be exceptionally narrow compared to my foot which meant at first they were quite uncomfortable. After a little time wearing them (and significantly loosening the laces!) they do now fit my feet better and whilst they aren't as comfortable as something like the Puma Evospeed to run in, they no longer as uncomfortable.

The spike has a good structure and adequate padding around the heel to ensure a comfortable fit and it's Flywire technology ensures that the shoe maintains its shape whilst keeping the weight down.

The asymmetric lacing both looks good and also enables for a closer fit as it allows the tongue to be attached via an elasticated band to the spike plate on one side.

The plate is strong and aggressive but does also give a little flexibility to assist you when running the curve, making this shoe good for both 200m and 400m running. The plate also has a slight lip under the ball of the foot - which so far has kept my foot that usually likes to roll outwards thanks to being wider than the plate - going in a straight line.
